Brown Sugar Drops

Yield:
About 6 Dozen Cookies

Ingredients:

  1. 1 cup shortening
  2. 2 cups brown sugar (packed)
  3. 2 eggs
  4. 1/2 cup buttermilk**
  5. 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour*
  6. 1 teaspoon baking soda
  7. 1 teaspoon salt
Directions:

Mix thoroughly shortening, sugar, eggs and buttermilk. Blend in flour, soda and salt. Cover; chill 1 hour. Heat oven to 400 F. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto greased baking sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until almost no imprint remains when touched with finger. Immediately remove from baking sheet.

*If using self -rising flour, omit soda and salt.

**No buttermilk? Substitute 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice and enough milk to make 1/2 cup.
