Gingerbread Cake with Orange Sauce

Ingredients:

  1. 1/2 cup butter flavored shortening
  2. 1/3 cup sugar
  3. 1 cup molasses
  4. 3/4 cup water
  5. 1 egg
  6. 2 1/3 cups flour
  7. 1 teaspoon baking soda
  8. 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  9. 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  10. 3/4 teaspoon salt
  11. Orange Sauce:
  12. 1 cup confectioners sugar
  13. 2 tablespoons orange juice
  14. 1/2 tablespoon grated orange peel
Directions:

In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Add the molasses, water and egg.

Combine the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon and salt; add to creamed mixture and beat until smooth. Pour into a greased 15x10-inch baking pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 18-22 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.

In a bowl, combine the Orange Sauce ingredients. Serve with cake.
