Cook and stir onion in melted butter in medium saucepan over medium heat about 5 minutes or until tender. Carefully stir in water, bouillon granules, rice and pepper; heat to a boil.
Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 20 minutes (do not lift cover.) Remove from heat. Let stand, covered, for 5 minutes.
Rice should be tender but slightly firm, and the mixture should be creamy. Stir in cheese.
