Cream Cheese Sugar Cookies

Yield:
5 dozen cookies

Ingredients:

  1. 4 cups flour
  2. 1 teaspoon baking powder
  3. 1/4 teaspoon salt
  4. 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  5. 1/2 cup butter
  6. 1/2 cup shortening
  7. 1 package (8 ounce) cream cheese
  8. 1 1/3 cups granulated sugar
  9. 1 egg
  10. 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  11. Decorate:
  12. 2 containers (15.6 ounce) Funfetti frosting, vanilla frosting or homemade frosting
  13. Colored sugar
  14. Colored sugar nonpareils
Directions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F

Combine flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg; set aside.

Cream together butter and shortening; add cream cheese and sugar beating until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; beat well. Gradually beat in flour mixture.

Divide dough in half. Cover and chill 1 to 2 hours.

On lightly floured surface, roll dough 1/8- inch thick. Cut with cookie cutters. Place on ungreased baking sheet.

Bake for 7 to 9 minutes. Cool on wire rack. Frost as desired.

Cookies can be baked ahead and frozen, then frosted at a later date.
