Caribbean Sangria

Ingredients:

  1. 3 Tablespoons granulated sugar
  2. 3 Tablespoons spiced dark rum
  3. 3 Tablespoons orange liqueur
  4. 1 navel orange, sliced
  5. 1 lemon, sliced
  6. 2 ripe peaches, cut into wedges
  7. 3 ripe plums, cut into wedges
  8. 2 cinnamon sticks
  9. 1 bottle (750 ml) red Rioja or other dry red wine
  10. Sparkling water, chilled
Directions:

Combine sugar, rum, orange liqueur, fruits, and cinnamon sticks in a large pitcher. Stir to dissolve sugar. Pour in wine, cover and chill for at least 4 hours or overnight.

Just before serving, spoon fruits from pitcher into tall glasses, add ice, and pour over spiced wine. Top glasses of Sangria off with a splash of soda water
