Peppy Turkey Chili

Ingredients:

  1. 1 pound lean ground turkey
  2. 1 teaspoon olive oil
  3. 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  4. 1 green pepper, chopped
  5. 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  6. 1 can (28 ounce) reduced sodium crushed tomatoes
  7. 1 can (14 ounce) low sodium tomato puree
  8. 1 can (15 ounce) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  9. 1 can (16 ounce) black beans, drained and rinsed
  10. 2 tablespoons chili powder
  11. 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  12. 1 teaspoon cumin
  13. Hot sauce, to taste
  14. 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  15. salt and pepper to taste
  16. Pepper, to taste
Directions:

In a deep saucepot over medium-high heat, saute onion and pepper in olive oil for 3 to 5 minutes.

Add garlic and cook an additional minute.

Add ground turkey and brown for 5 minutes.

Add tomatoes and tomato puree and turn heat to low.

Add beans and spices and simmer, stirring occasionally until mixture thickens. Add additional seasoning if needed.
